According to Harry and Rosemary Wong, “Effective teachers have a classroom management plan consisting of a series of practices and procedures that are used to maintain an environment in which instruction and learning can take place.”

Classroom management is not about controlling or disciplining your students. Rather, it is about having consistent strategies in place to avoid distractions and misbehavior, so you won’t have to discipline. In The Classroom Management Book, written by the Wongs, they write this about classroom management: “It is invisible when performed at its best. It is apparent when it is missing from classrooms.” Think about the points of your class where off task behavior is present. That’s where a system needs to be put in place.
