Minute Masterclass Episode 16
Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance. In episode 13, I spoke about self-regulation and the Freeze Dance. Today I am sharing 4 reasons why the Freeze Dance should be the first thing you do in every early childhood dance class.
#1 – When dancers enter the studio, their little brains and bodies are ready to explode from excitement. So let them DANCE! This will get their listening ears ready and work off some of that excited energy. In addition, it serves as a creative outlet and nurtures a love for improvisation.
#2 – Providing props* in your classes is a fantastic way to offer a multi-sensory learning experience. The Freeze Dance allows the dancers to not only explore the many amazing ways their bodies can move, but add a prop and it will enhance their movement experience. Props also brings us to reason…
#3 – If a child is hesitant to leave their grown-ups for class, what better way to entice them than with a colorful scarf or fun instrument*?
#4 – Beginning with the Freeze Dance, allows a buffer between the start of class and when we are ready to learn, which helps class flow when dancers are running late. For more info visit DiscoverDance.com.
