Minute Masterclass Episode 59

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance. Today we are discussing the brain-based principle: Provide an Enriched Environment. One of my favorite passages from Anne Green Gilbert is this one from her Brain Compatible Dance Education book. She writes, “A multisensory environment develops axons that myelinated; therefore, they communicate more smoothly with one another. Neurons that fire together, wire together, creating stronger connections in the brain. The enriched environment is achieved through a challenging curriculum involving the visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile senses…”

Here at DiscoverDance, we have created the See, Say, Do, Play teaching strategy to help ensure we are providing an enriched environment through multiple senses. We SEE the class objective through visuals, we SAY the class objective using the different qualities of our voice, we get up and DO the class objective with our bodies, and we add props to PLAY (aka explore) for our tactile input. In addition to fostering deep learning, we reach multiple learning styles through this enriched environment. This helps keep our little ones engaged and focused, because we are teaching the way they learn. For more information, visit DiscoverDance.com.
