Minute Masterclass Episode 91
Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators. When we learn something new, we process the information through our visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile senses. These are known as the VAKT Learning Styles. Even though we may have a style of learning our brain prefers, everyone does process information through all of these channels at different degrees. When we offer an enriched learning experience where multiple senses are involved, we create a classroom full of attentive and growing students. By engaging all styles of learners, we can be certain we are teaching the way each child learns no matter their preferred style of learning. Although it may sound like a challenge to include all of these senses into your classroom objectives, DiscoverDance has a strategy to help! We use the See, Say, Do, Play teaching strategy when delivering our class content. This strategy keeps us in check to ensure we are indeed reaching multiple learning styles.
We…
- SEE the class objective either on a whiteboard, a teaching visual, or a prop for our visual learners.
- SAY the class objective for our auditory learners.
- DO the class objective with our bodies for our kinesthetic learners.
- add props to PLAY with and explore class objectives for our tactile learners.
Props play a huge role in creating that multi-sensory experience our developing learners need. I look forward to sharing how in upcoming episodes. For more information, visit DiscoverDance.com.
