Minute Masterclass Episode 111
Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience Membership. Much like how we teach our students through multi-sensory learning, we should be leading our families through multi-sensory communication. Everyone processes information differently. Think about in the classroom when you have a student falling out of their pirouette. You can tell them all day long what they need to fix. If they continue doing the pirouette without applying your correction they are always going to have the same result. But what if they need to see the correction on someone else, because they are a visual learner? What if they need to feel the correction of your hand on their scapula, because they are a tactile learner?
The same teaching principles that we use in our classroom every single day are the same principles we can apply to our communication with our dance families. Visuals in your lobby, text blasts, studio apps such as Band or Remind, social media live or recorded videos, hard copies at the front desk- Come at them from all angles thinking of the learners who need to see it, who need to hear it, and who need to feel it. I know it sounds daunting, but a studio season is a cycle. Once you have your templates (and an awesome team) each year gets easier and easier. Just like how we have evolved from paper registration to online registration and tuition drop boxes to automatic billing, our communication must also evolve.
