What style of dance is DiscoverDance?

Here at DiscoverDance, it’s not about WHAT we teach to our early childhood dance students, but HOW we teach it.

We approach dance education through the exploration of the concepts of dance. Because of this, we are able to teach ANY and ALL styles of dance. We do this by centering our lesson plans around 11 concepts of dance. By focusing on the essence of movement FIRST, we build a solid foundation for the skills and movements needed to progress our specialized dance skills IN ANY STYLE OF DANCE. Inside the DiscoverDance Experience, you will find creative movement, ballet, jazz, tap, and tumbling warm-ups, concept explorations, skill development activities, and full lesson plans. The Experience allows you to create a curriculum that fits the needs of your students and your studio using our developmentally appropriate and unique approach to dance education.

What age groups are included in DiscoverDance?
Our classes are divided by developmental stage, not age. This means you have the ability to evaluate YOUR classes at THEIR developmental stage and place them appropriately. Listed below are what we typically see in the studio, however, you may have a class of rockstar 2-year-olds that are ready for Stage 3 and a class of 4-year-olds who need Stage 3 Skill Developments for a bit. You can place your students accordingly based on their needs. Every lesson plan and class activity (warm-up, concept exploration, obstacle course, skill development, resting) is labeled with the appropriate stage of development. So, you can rest assured you are delivering a developmentally appropriate curriculum that puts the needs of the developing child at the forefront of the class objectives.
Stage 1- Caregiver and Tot (typically walking-age 3)
Stage 2- Typically age 2
Stage 3- Typically age 3
Stage 4- Typically age 4
What is the difference between the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience?

The Foundations Course is available to all educators whether you are a member of the DiscoverDance Experience or not. It is an on-demand online course with a one-time enrollment fee.

The DiscoverDance Experience is our educational platform with additional trainings, curriculum creator, teaching library and business library (studio track only). Members can choose monthly or yearly plans. New content is added monthly. DiscoverDance Experience members receive a $50 discount/per teacher on the Foundations Course. You will find the code inside our private members-only facebook group. Each teacher must register for the course separately and use the coupon code to receive a discount.

Do I need to complete the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators in order to join the DiscoverDance Experience?

Do you need to? No. However, In order to get the most out of your DiscoverDance Experience, this introductory course will give you a clear basic understanding of why we do what we do the way we do it. You will see that our approach to dance education is like no other! We created this course to introduce the foundation of not only early childhood dance education, but the foundation on the method behind our unique approach to dance education (specifically conceptual teaching and our lesson plan frameworks).

Does DiscoverDance offer a certification?

Here at DiscoverDance, learning never ends! We are dedicated to continued education and we hope you are too. Rather than offer a one-time certification, we have created an educational platform as a place to continue your professional development in early childhood dance education. The ever-expanding DiscoverDance Experience includes training materials on classroom management, curriculum building, child development, and so much more! In addition, educators are encouraged to take the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators. See question above for more information.
