Minute Masterclass Episode 10

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance. Do you have students who struggle to sit in one position for a short amount of time? Do they slouch during circle stretches? Struggle to get up off of the floor or down to the floor? Do they tire easily or dislike physical activity? These students may be experiencing a lack of core strength.

Before we can have a class full of properly aligned dancers, we must encourage core strength development. Including animal walks such as bear or crab walks, rolling on a wedge mat, or obstacle courses with jumping opportunities and uneven surfaces all help develop our core strength. Core strength leads to good posture and that sets the foundation for proper alignment in our dance training. When children have proper core strength, they are more confident in their moving body which instills a love of movement that will hopefully last a lifetime.
