Minute Masterclass Episode 12

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance. Lauren Drobnjak writes on theinspiredtreehouse.com, “Body awareness, or kinesthetic sense, is having a sense of where all of your body parts are in space, how each of those parts work together or separately and even how they feel.”

In order to control our bodies, we must first develop our body awareness starting with body part identification activities. Once little ones succeed in knowing the difference between their elbow and their shoulder or their knee from their leg, we can then explore all the amazing ways each of those body parts can move. An awareness of our body parts in space leads to a strong foundation in body control. We can encourage this development through activities such as stop and go explorations, jumping over a target such as a cone* or landing on a target like a poly spot*.
