Minute Masterclass Episode 26

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance. The double dance box creates limitless opportunities for creative exploration and skill development, while the multiple colors allow for effective cueing and visual reinforcements. The more we view the double dance box as a tool, rather than confinement, the more our dancers will focus on the class objectives and exciting explorations, rather than feel restricted by their taped space. It’s time to get creative!

Explore the concept of speed by playing contrasting music. When the music is slow, dance slowly in the small box. When the music is fast, dance quickly in the big box. Be sure to reverse it and dance fast in the small box and slow in the big box.

How about an obstacle box? The red line becomes a balance beam. Skip along the white line. Turn around and skip backwards on the yellow line and use the blue line to reinforce a class objective. If our concept is speed, spin slowly along the blue line. The second time through the obstacle box, spin as fast as you can along the blue line. How about teaching shuffle ball changes? Shuffle while standing in the small box, ball change steps back in the big box, then front in the small box. Again, the possibilities are endless! For more information, visit DiscoverDance.com.
