Minute Masterclass Episode 93

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators. Today in our Power of Props series, we are talking about group props. These are your oversized scarves, giant stretchy bands (or connect-a-stretchy band), parachutes, or octabands to name a few. Any prop that takes more than one person to use is considered a group prop. Group props promote teamwork! Working with larger props also helps develop self-regulation, eye tracking, the vestibular system, and proprioception.

We use group props for guided explorations, where specific directions are given, as well as exploring the concepts of dance. Some group prop activities include Parachute Time by Patty Shukla with the parachute and Make a Circle by Super Simple Songs with the giant stretchy band.
