Minute Masterclass Episode 101

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience Membership. Today we are beginning a brand new series focusing on the DiscoverDance approach to style specific dance education. At DiscoverDance, our mission is to create a dance education that is dedicated to the developing child. Over the past one hundred minute masterclasses, I have shared our approach and methodology on how we do just that. If you would like to dive deeper and level up your professional development, consider joining us inside the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators at DiscoverDance.com.

The balance between setting a strong technical foundation, while at the same time honoring and respecting the young developing child, is a serious endeavor that must be at the forefront of our class objectives. In this series, we will dive into how we apply the concepts of dance and develop skills in the styles of ballet, tap, jazz, and acrobatics. I will share how we apply the concepts of each style of dance and where and how we teach the skills in our lesson plan frameworks. The conceptual approach allows us to break down every skill to its core. When our students understand what makes a plié a plié or a tendu a tendu, they grow to understand the essence of movements and mechanics of dance. This sets the foundation for technical proficiency and dance artistry, while at the same time meeting their developmental needs. For more information, visit DiscoverDance.com.
