Minute Masterclass Episode 125

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience Membership. Today, we are beginning a new series on the BrainDance. The BrainDance was developed in 2000 by Anne Green Gilbert. This warm-up framework explores 8 developmental patterns that organize our central nervous system when we are babies. Research has found that moving through this same pattern we naturally explored from birth at any age can help re-organize and strengthen our mind-body connection. This movement pattern is extremely versatile. You can perform it at any age, stage of training, standing, seated, in a chair, laying on the floor, with any style of dance, to music, poems, nursery rhymes, live singing, and so on. The variations are limitless. In the upcoming weeks, we will be exploring each pattern of movement, examples of movement, best practices for teaching the BrainDance, and style specific BrainDance variations.
