Minute Masterclass Episode 143
Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience Membership. Today, we’re talking about our goals in DiscoverDance. In addition to Anne Green Gilbert’s work guiding our goals as well as the National Dance Education Organization’s Early Childhood Dance Standards, we have teamed up with pediatric exercise physiologist, Robyn Papworth to ensure we are setting developmentally appropriate goals all around. You can find her training and assessments inside the DiscoverDance Experience.
Here at DiscoverDance, we focus on three skill sets. We have foundational skill development that our students need in order to learn and move. We have conceptual skill development that our students need to understand the art of dance. And, we have our codified skill development that our students need to execute proper technique. By focusing on these three sets of skills, we are creating a learning experience that caters to the developing child (foundational skill development), the artist (conceptual skill development), and the athlete (codified skill development) inside each of our students.
