Minute Masterclass Episode 145

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience Membership. Today, we are talking about our DiscoverDance systems- lesson plan frameworks. We have strategically created our lesson plan frameworks to streamline lesson planning, give our program clear intent and purpose, and ensure we are incorporating our guide, goals, and approach. In addition, we have built our classroom management plan right inside of our lesson plan framework to nip (most) off-task behavior before it even has the chance to begin.

Here are just a few examples of how this works. Beginning every class with a prop and the freeze dance is part of our strategic classroom management plan to help work off the excited energy for some and the nervous energy for others. We also use the freeze dance as a tool to develop self-regulation, which is a foundational skill our students need to learn. Performing our 5-station obstacle course (waiting, balance, gross motor, spatial pattern, exploration) ensures we are incorporating foundational skill development in every class. By doing a stylized obstacle course, we are adding the layer of codified skill development. And, by exploring a concept on top of that, we are adding the layer of conceptual skill development. With frameworks, it’s easy to make all of this happen with DiscoverDance.
