Minute Masterclass Episode 153

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience Membership.

Today, we are talking about how to teach caregiver and tot classes. Once we have our inclusive welcoming experience and we’ve created our lessons based on the developing child, we now have a studio full of (perhaps) anxious or nervous parents who are wondering if they will have to wear ballet slippers and do ballet work and energetic toddlers who are experiencing many different feelings and emotions about this new place and these new people.

During caregiver and tot classes, we are going to focus on the caregivers during instructions. You facilitate the learning that happens between the grown-up and the child, so that the child sees one authority figuretheir grown-up. When too many big people are telling a child what to do, it can be confusing and overwhelming. By teaching the grown-up who then teaches the child, clear roles in the classroom will be created.
