Minute Masterclass Episode 170

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience Membership. Today we’re talking about the second station of our DiscoverDance 5-station obstacle course: the balance station. Any movement that activates our vestibular system and/or proprioceptive sense will go here. This could include both static and dynamic balancing on a balance beam, stepping stones, walking up and down a wedge mat, log rolls across a mat, balancing a bean bag on a body part, or spinning then freezing without wiggling, wobbling, or falling down. Balancing is a foundational skill that must be included in every early childhood dance class. By incorporating it inside our obstacle course framework, we can rest assured we are meeting this foundational need inside every class.

For more information, to enroll in the Foundations Course and learn more about foundational skill development, or to join the DiscoverDance Experience and access our obstacle course library with over a hundred obstacle courses of multiple styles, stages of development, and themes visit DiscoverDance.com.
