Minute Masterclass Episode 171

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench, founder of DiscoverDance and creator of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and the DiscoverDance Experience Membership. Today we’re talking about the third station of our DiscoverDance 5-station obstacle course: the gross motor station. This station will include large motor movements such as jumps, hops, gallops, leaps, and skips. Anything that moves our large muscle groups will go here. When deciding what movements to include in this station, consider the style of dance you are teaching and combine a codified skill that is also a gross motor movement. For example, in ballet class, perform échappés using poly spots in a hopscotch pattern. In tap class, jump click over poly spots. And, in jazz class, perform battements from one poly spot to another. The creative options are endless!
