Minute Masterclass Episode 219

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench. If you enjoy our minute masterclasses, consider continuing your professional development as a student in our Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and as a member of our DiscoverDance Experience online community. You can learn more about both of these opportunities at DiscoverDance.com.

Today, we’re exploring the concepts with hoops.

First, I’m sharing the activities where we use the hoops as steering wheels. We have a few!

Drivin’ in My Car by Ralph’s World is a stop and go activity exploring the concepts of PLACE, DIRECTIONS, and PATHWAYS.

Driving in My Car By Super Simple Songs explores the concepts of PLACE, LEVEL, and SPEED. Although we begin the song driving our car, we actually explore different modes of transportation so you’ll have to get creative on how to incorporate the hoop.

Highway Number One by Shenanigans is our last driving activity for this episode and explores the concepts of PLACE, DIRECTIONS, and PATHWAYS. In between driving, we put the hoop down and perform the actions inside the hoop.

Over, Under, Around, and Through by Junior Jam is my go-to song for exploring the concept of RELATIONSHIPS.

Rocketship Run by The Laurie Berkner Band explores the concepts of ENERGY and RELATIONSHIPS. During each verse,  fly smoothly through space around the hoops on the floor. During the chorus,  jump in a hoop to “blast-off” with sharp energy.
