Minute Masterclass Episode 221

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench. If you enjoy our minute masterclasses, consider continuing your professional development as a student in our Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and as a member of our DiscoverDance Experience online community. You can learn more about both of these opportunities at DiscoverDance.com.

Today, I’m sharing additional props I like to use that reinforces each of the concepts.

When exploring the concept of PLACE, I like to incorporate movement cards. These are great visuals that can offer many creative ways we can move on our spot and all around.

When exploring the concept of SIZE, I love to bring out my 9 foot canopy scarf. You can easily scrunch it into a small ball so it’s a great visual for small and, of course, big when it’s all spread out.

When exploring the concept of LEVEL, you will always find step stools in our obstacle courses. They are an easy way for our little ones to feel the difference between high, when on the stool, and low when they step down.

When exploring the concept of DIRECTIONS, we will take full advantage of all the props inside our obstacle course by exploring each in a different direction than we normally would.

When exploring the concept of PATHWAYS, we use our poly feet. We create different pathways as a group when introducing the concept of the day and explore individually inside our exploration station of our obstacle course.

When exploring the concept of SPEED, I like to play my teacher drum. It’s actually a Remo 10” Fiberskyn tambourine. With it and my mallet, I can easily create live music at various tempos.

Join me next week for part 2 where I will share props for the remaining DiscoverDance core concepts. For more information, to enroll in the Foundations Course, or to join the DiscoverDance Experience visit DiscoverDance.com.
